Running a Marathon
Forever sealed into my memory will be the faces of the volunteers, the faces of the cheering spectators. There is nothing like seeing and hearing people of every demographic looking you in the eye yelling “You got this!” - old ladies whose block you're running on, little kids giving out Twizzlers, twenty-somethings handing out free beers, and energetic soccer moms. Every minute, I swear, I would hear someone yell, “Go Eddie!” (Eddie Z was the name on my bib).
Not only this, they had some eye catching cardboard signs. Many were motivational, saying stuff like “Go Mom!!”, “Run like a zombie is chasing you!” and “On a scale of 1-10 you're 26-2”.
Others had me chuckling:
- “You run better than the economy!”
- “After mile 18 don't trust your farts!”
- “Finish the race like you finished last night!”
